About Texas Brothers
The era was the 1940's. Texas Brothers started with a dream, as many small businesses did. Dale and Lee's father, Harvey Heiskell, owned and ran a service station and cafe called Cottage Kitchen in Dalhart, Texas. It was on Highway 87 South before Route 66 began the road to the West.
Lee and Dale's Uncle Butch Loftin worked at the Colorado Interstate Bus Station at this time. He was a great uncle as well as a great cook. Credit is given to Butch for helping them along with choosing and mixing a dry rub rather than a barbeque sauce. Butch always said, "You don't put ketchup on prime rib or any other good piece of meat."
In 1989, Dale and Lee took their family history on tour. They participated in the first The Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off in Reno, Nevada. Their cooking team Texas Brothers Bar-B-Que was one of the first cooking teams that started the barbecue cook-off festival circuit to places like Ribfest in Chicago and all over the USA for 20 years.
In that time, they've won awards, made a lot good friends, and gained a lot of barbecue knowledge.
Lee’s son Lance first built this site over 20 years ago for people who couldn’t wait a year to buy a bottle of dry rub at the next Nugget Rib Cook-off. As years passed, instructional videos with Lee imparting his bbq wisdom were added so everyone can learn and improve their bar-b-que skills.
Lee and Dale are no longer with us. Their memories and knowledge remain. Long Live Texas Brothers BBQ.
Thanks for visiting and enjoy your barbecue to the fullest!
